The heart of rugby league in Central Queensland

history of Browne Park

Originally opened in 1890 as a community football ground; rugby league becomes the primary code from 1918 and renamed in 1958 after Jack Browne.
The 750-seat Jack Crow Stand located on the Murray Street side was originally erected.
Major makeover — field shifted 10 metres to accommodate the Rockhampton Leagues Club redevelopment; new irrigation, lighting towers, and a new main entrance. New undercover Nev Callaghan Stand added 600+ seats, bringing spectators closer to the action.
State funded redevelopment (Stage 1) delivers a new three level, 3,253 seat western grandstand, replacing the existing Jack Crow Stand.

HOME OF SPORT

For more than a century, Browne Park has been the home of rugby league in Central Queensland — and its next chapter will take local sport to an entirely new level.

The $62.78 million redevelopment transforms the historic venue into a modern, multi-sport stadium capable of hosting everything from community footy to elite NRL fixtures.

MAJOR EVENTS PRECINCT

The new Browne Park has been purpose-designed to anchor a genuine major events precinct for Rockhampton.

The redevelopment doubles spectator capacity and introduces new corporate, media and hospitality facilities that meet national broadcast and NRL standard requirements — unlocking the potential to host premier rugby league, rugby union, concerts and community festivals year round.

DESIGN & FUNCTIONALITY

Designed by COX Architecture and delivered by Hutchinson Builders, the redevelopment combines heritage character with contemporary design.

The new grandstand replaces the Jack Crow Stand on the Murray Street side with a striking, three level structure offering improved accessibility, premium seating, and sweeping views of the field.
